Sonata for a Good Life

by Patrick Ussher

The first three in particular from this album were composed with Patrick’s mother, Mary Ussher, who lived with grace through a breast cancer diagnosis, in mind. ‘In Spam Contra Spem’ is a phrase that features his mother’s book, The Pink Ribbon Path, extracts from which area also in the exhibition.

‘Sonata for a Good life’ was composed while is thinking of his mother, and the variation of ‘Salve Regina’ speaks to the fact he used to sing this chant at the end of his meditations together with his mother.
