Liberation

The sheer cheek, The boldness How daring can you get To don a gown of red When there’s work to be done [...]

by Angela McCrossan

The sheer cheek,

The boldness

How daring can you get

To don a gown of red

When there’s work to be done.

The audacity

Outlandish

To arrive flaunting ruby red lips

That pout and purse

Inviting roaming eyes to “take a peek”,

At legs going up –

Who knows where?

But all the way up to the top.

How shocking,

What a disgrace,

Where’s her shame gone?

Under her petticoat

Taffeta swishes

As hips swing

In time with the beat.

There’s a stirring

A bit of a wave

As likeminded spirits

Begin to emerge.

All converge on the dance floor

Wild women as one

What freedom and we’ve only just begun.
